The ECHL proudly announced today that Todd Skirving of the Reading Royals has been selected as the recipient of the 2024-25 ECHL Community Service Award, recognizing the player who has made the most meaningful contributions to his local community throughout the season.
Since arriving in Reading, Skirving has not only delivered on the ice, but has become a force for good off it. From raising thousands for cancer research to mentoring young athletes and uplifting causes close to the hearts of fans, his dedication to community service has left a deep and lasting mark.
A Season of Impact: Skirving’s Contributions Off the Ice
Cancer Research Fundraiser – “The Skirvy 3.0”
Skirving raised $3,606 in honor of his father Rod—now in remission from prostate cancer—through a heartfelt initiative that included t-shirt sales, raffle baskets, and a fan meet-and-greet, supporting cancer research and awareness during No Shave Movember.
Holiday Hospital Visit – St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital
Todd personally delivered stuffed animals to patients at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA during the holidays, bringing comfort and smiles to children and their families.
22Q Awareness Night – Game Day with Elijah
He welcomed a young fan, Elijah, for a pre-game experience as part of the “22Q Awareness Tour,” highlighting 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and giving the family an unforgettable day inside the Royals locker room.
Scoops and Swings for Slapshot Charities
From scooping ice cream at the Slapshot Charities fundraiser to participating in the organization’s annual golf outing, Skirving helped raise essential funds for local youth in need of educational and recreational support.
Celebrity Bartending – Reading Hospital Movember Fundraiser
At Reading Hospital’s McGlinn Cancer Institute, Todd took on a one-hour celebrity bartending shift to support cancer research, engaging with the community and building awareness for men’s health causes.
Spaghetti Dinner – Royals Booster Club
Todd served meals and greeted fans at the Royals Booster Club’s annual spaghetti fundraiser, further strengthening the team’s relationship with its most dedicated supporters.
Pro Berco Harmony Walk
Skirving joined the Harmony Walk on March 30 to promote inclusion and celebrate the contributions of individuals with disabilities, standing as an ally and advocate for community unity.
Youth Hockey Clinics Across Berks County
Throughout the year, he coached kids aged 4–16 during on-ice hockey clinics, mentoring young players and instilling confidence, discipline, and joy in the next generation of Royals fans.

The ECHL Community Service Award goes beyond statistics and appearances—it honors players who build something lasting in their communities. In every way, Todd Skirving lived that mission this season.
