Early on this Monday afternoon, the Toronto Maple Leafs landed Matias Maccelli in a trade with the Utah Mammoth.

In the trade, Toronto will send a conditional 2027 third-round pick. If Maccelli scores more than 51 points during the 2025-26 season AND the Maple Leafs make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the 2027 3rd will turn into a 2029 second-round pick.

Matias Maccelli, 24, has played four seasons with the Arizona/Utah franchise prior to requesting a trade last season. Maccelli has skated in 224 games, tallying 37 goals and 93 assists. Maccelli has been looking for more opportunity in an NHL lineup, and Darren Dreger of TSN reports the hope is Maccelli will be able to slot into the Maple Leafs top-six.

For the Maple Leafs, this addition is low risk, high reward. If Maccelli comes in and produces over the 51 point threshold, that’s quite a bargain with an AAV at $3.425m. Maccelli is in the final season of his three-year contract and is an RFA with arbitration rights. His next qualifiying offer would put him at $4.11m per PuckPedia.
