On Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they will be without goaltender Anthony Stolarz for 4-6 weeks. The absence is due to a knee injury he suffered in a game against Anaheim on December 12. On Wednesday, Stolarz underwent a procedure in New York to repair the knee. Stolarz led the National Hockey League in save percentage at the time of the injury.

General Manager Brad Treliving said that Stolarz had something that looked like a “little pebble” behind his knee, hindering his ability to straighten his leg.
“It’s in the wrong spot,” Treliving said. “We waited for a few days to see if it would move. But it doesn’t allow him to get a full range of motion, so it’s gotta be removed. This isn’t related to any previous injury,” Treliving said.

With Anthony Stolarz out for an extended period, the Maple Leafs have called on Joseph Woll and rookie Dennis Hildeby to take over netminding duties. Treliving acknowledged that veteran Matt Murray, who recently returned from an injury, could also see some time in the NHL.
Recently, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that Stolarz’s return would be in “late January, early February”. The Leafs are in first place in the Atlantic Division, one point ahead of the Florida Panthers as of Wednesday, January 15.
