The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled prospect Fraser Minten from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League to replace center John Tavares, who will be out “week-to-week” with a lower-body injury sustained in practice on Wednesday.
The Maple Leafs placed Tavares on injured reserve to make room for the young forward. Minten had two goals and two assists in 11 games in an earlier stint with Toronto and played four games last season with the Leafs. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound center had five goals and five assists in 16 AHL games before his recall.
Minten was a second-round draft pick, 38th overall, by the Maple Leafs in the 2022 NHL Draft. The Vancouver native played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Kamloops Blazers and Saskatoon Blades.
