
The Toronto Maple Leafs traded Mitch Marner last night, bringing back Nicolas Roy in a one-for-one trade. Today, they started free agency, signing forward Michael Pezzetta to a two-year deal worth $1.575 million, a $787,500 AAV. Pezzetta last season in 25 games with Montreal didn’t record a point; he was a minus-two with seven blocked shots and 73 hits. Pezzetta is a bottom-six forward for the Maple Leafs who adds some toughness for Toronto.

The Montreal Canadiens drafted Michael Pezzetta 160th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In four seasons with Montreal, he played in 200 games, recording 38 points on 15 goals and 23 assists. He is a career minus-nine, with 241 penalty minutes, 72 blocked shots, and 710 hits. Pezzetta has also played in 115 AHL games for the Laval Rocket, the affiliate of the Canadiens. He recorded 25 points on 13 goals and 12 assists. Pezzetta was a minus-five and had 186 penalty minutes. Before joining the Canadiens, he was playing in the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves and Sarnia Sting. He played in 214 games for the Wolves, recording 90 points on 40 goals and 50 assists. He was a -110 with 295 penalty minutes. In 27 games with the Sting, he had 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists. He was a plus-one with 26 penalty minutes.
