Toronto Marlies Sign Forward Kieffer Bellows to a PTO

The Toronto Marlies have signed former Philadelphia Flyers forward Kieffer Bellows to a professional tryout offer. The 25-year-old forward had three goals in twenty-seven games last year with the Flyers.

Kieffer Bellows is a forward who plays a hard game and was once a highly touted prospect. After playing with the United States National Team Development Program, Kieffer went on to be selected in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders.

An interesting note is that the 25-year-old forward does have ties to the Toronto Marlies organization. Marlies Head Coach John Gruden did coach Kieffer Bellows back when both were with the New York Islanders organization.

It’ll be interesting to see what comes from this move. Kieffer Bellows is a player who once certainly showed potential at the National Hockey League level but will definitely have to earn that opportunity once again through the American Hockey League. Reuniting with a former coach could be exactly what Kieffer Bellows needs.

I don’t think this move impacts the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs at all just yet but don’t be surprised if Kieffer Bellows impresses and earns a contract with the Marlies, then pushes for the Maple Leafs to make a move. Kieffer is a player who I liked a lot in his time with the New York Islanders and could definitely bring a jolt to any team’s bottom-six. I like the gamble, and it should be a fun situation to monitor.
