Two-time Calder Cup Champ goalie Hunter Shepard is signing with the Ottawa Senators. It’s a one-year, two-way contract. He may end up playing with the Belleville Senators of the AHL. Regardless of where he plays, it’s a great signing for the Senators. In 39 games this season with the Hershey Bears, he went 23-11-4 with a 2.80 goals-against average, a .891 save percentage, and three shutouts. Shepard in one game with the Washington Capitals, suffered the loss, giving up seven goals on 26 shots. In seven Calder Cup Playoff games, he went 2-5-0 with a 2.77 goals-against average, a .893 save percentage, and a shutout.

Hunter Shepard

Shepard played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. In 119 games, he went 76-37-5 with a .922 save percentage, a 1.94 goals-against average, and 17 shutouts. He joined the Capitals organization in 2020-21. Shepard played in 21 games in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays. He went 12-6-2 with a 2.55 goals-against average, a .922 save percentage, and a shutout. In three games with Hershey that season, he went 3-0-0. Shepard posted a 1.00 goals-against average, a .969 save percentage, and a shutout. Shepard in 2021-22, he played in 23 games with the Stingrays, going 12-9-2. He posted a 2.88 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and two shutouts. In nine games with Hershey in that same season, he went 5-3-0. He posted a 2.06 goals-against average, a .922 save percentage, and a shutout.

Shepard in 2022-23, he spent the whole season with Hershey, playing in 33 games, going 20-8-5 with a 2.18 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage, and a shutout. In the playoff en route to a Calder Cup Championship, he played in 20 games, going 14-6-0 with a 2.27 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage, and three shutouts. Shepard in the 2023-24 season, he played in four games with the Capitals, going 2-1-1 with a 3.19 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage. In 34 games for Hershey, he went 27-4-3 with a 1.76 goals-against average, a .929 save percentage, and five shutouts. In the playoffs on the way to the Bears’ second straight Calder Cup, he went 14-6-0 with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
