OVER A POINT PER GAME AFTER Five
With Jack Hughes racking up all sorts of numbers and Jesper Bratt right behind him, you may lose focus of another New Jersey Devils forward who has started the season off hot. Tyler Toffoli has only played five games as of the time of writing this. In those five games, three at home and two on the road, Toffoli has six points. Over the summer, Tyler Toffoli was obtained through a trade with the Calgary Flames, which saw Yegor Sharangovich (who made his Calgary scoring debut this weekend) leaving the Devils organization.
HOT STICK ON THE ROAD
In the first two games of the season, Toffoli came out with two assists. One assist in each game to start his Devils tenure. In his third game, third at home, he went pointless. It was the New Jersey Devils short road trip that saw Toffoli’s stick light on fire as if the Jersey Devil came out of the Pine Barrens and lit it himself. On Long Island, Toffoli scored his first goal as a Devil. A quick goal to start the period on a powerplay, and it seems Toffoli’s scoring touch has come to light. Almost four full days later, the second of a two-game road trip ending in Montreal, Tyler Toffoli scored his first Hat Trick as a New Jersey Devil. This would be his fifth career hat trick. So it is safe to say Tyler Toffoli’s start in his new home has been a good one, and if he keeps this up, he will outpace himself from last season, which was the highest-scoring season of his career. With the likes of Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, Timo Meier, and so many others around him, we cannot rule that out. We have seen teams time after time have multiple high-scoring players on the same line and team. If this is how Toffoli starts his career with a new team, let’s hope he doesn’t move on to a local rival if he doesn’t end up staying in New Jersey very long.
CONTRACT EXTENSION NOT LIKELY
Yes, it is too early to discuss something like this. However, it is probable the Devils will not have the funds to keep Toffoli in the mix in the long run, which leaves Timo Meier needing to step up. Meier has had a rather lackluster start to the season, taking penalties and not finishing on multiple attempts. Meier is still looking for his first goal of the season after signing an eight-year deal with the Devils. Given time, he will settle in, and the Devils will be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference for a long time to come.

👍👍😈 LGD!
I’m happy to see TT get going early. One thing about this team is that there is enough firepower spread around to make up for a player that might be in a small slump. I can’t wait to see what this season has to offer.
and he hasn’t stopped!!! despite the loss he had 3 points tonight, 2 goals, 6 goals in 3 games. Looks like that 8 year Meier contract could’ve been a Toffoli contract, at this point it looks better!I said when Timo came here that he won’t score as much as he is used to because he is playing with other high scoring players all across the team, that wasn’t the case in SJ
Toffoli came out with 2 more goals tonight, good call! Imagine they gave him the Meier contract? Right now it’s looking like that’s the mistake that was made regarding contracts this summer. Sucks to think that maybe Jesper Bratt, Dougie Hamilton and Timo Meier could be the 3 players left of this team by the end. Jesper Bratt is an original of this team with Nico. He scored the first Devils points (G,A) on this team. Ham didn’t get a point tonight for the first game I think. Meier got a goal and assist so maybe he’s gona get jumping. They NEED to put the top lines back in place. Meier Nico and Mercer / Toffoli Hughes and Bratt
