The inaugural winner of the 2025 Richard Bue Ultimate Teammate and the 2025 winner of the EPRA Julian Klymkiw Community Service Award is back for another season after signing a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 with the Winnipeg Jets yesterday.
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press reports that the contract is worth $775,000 in the NHL, $100,000 in the AHL, and carries a $125,000 guarantee.
Tyrel Bauer is arguably the most feared defenseman currently in the American Hockey League. His willingness to stand up for his teammates without question or second thought kept him as a near-regular in the Moose’s 2024-25 season lineup
Off the ice, Bauer committed to working with the Kinship and Foster Family Network of Manitoba, alongside serving as a coach with the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy as a U11 coach. He also made numerous appearances with his Moose teammates in a St. Amant early learning classroom, the Christmas Cheer Board, Siloam Mission, and many more.
Bauer, a sixth-round (164th overall) draft selection by the Winnipeg Jets in 2020, stands 6-foot-4 and just finished his three-year entry-level contract with the Jets. Bauer has never played for the Jets since being drafted, but has 162 career AHL games to date, all with the Moose.
In three seasons with the Moose, Bauer has posted 16 points (4G, 12A) and 291 PIMs. His junior hockey career in the Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds spanned five seasons. In his final two seasons with the Thunderbirds, he served as the team’s captain and played an important role with the group, even though he missed a lot of playing time due to injuries. He posted 48 points (12G, 36A) and 256 PIMs in 181 games as a Thunderbird.
Likely returning to the Moose for the 2025-26 season, Bauer will serve an important role as a leader on and off the ice.
After Bauer’s signing, the Jets have three restricted free agents (RFA) to sign. Parker Ford, Dylan Samberg, and Gabriel Vilardi will all be due new contracts this summer. The Jets look to avoid arbitration with their remaining RFAs as the summer progresses.
