The Washington Capitals have been a tough team this year as they have endured injury after injury but still have found ways to win. The Capitals are currently fourth in the Metropolitan Division and hold the top Eastern Conference Wild Card spot.
After getting forward Tom Wilson back in the lineup earlier this month after he recovered from ACL surgery, Wilson was injured the other night during the Capitals’ Tuesday night loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Wilson Blocked a shot in the second period, and head coach Peter Laviolette told reporters Wilson is day-to-day after the game.
With two games remaining before the All-Star break, it seems the Capitals will play the safe approach and keep Wilson sidelined until play resumes on Feb 11th.
Wilson is a key member of this team, as he provides a level of physicality that can not be replaced. Prior to the injury, Wilson skated in eight games scoring two goals and one assist. While it may seem like it’s time to worry, the Capitals are just being cautious, as there is no need to rush him back. The main focus following the All-Star break will be getting this team as close to 100 percent as possible before a potential playoff berth.
The Capitals have two games remaining before the break, as they play tomorrow, Sunday, Jan 29th, on the road against the Toronto Maple Leafs before heading to Columbus on Tuesday, Jan 31st, to take on the Blue Jackets.
