Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins Make A Trade

The Canucks were active last night in the trade department despite playing a game. They would lose 5-3 to the Dallas Stars. They made a trade earlier in the night with the Rangers that centered around JT Miller. Then they made a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins as they traded away a conditional 2025 first-round pick, Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, and Melvin Fernstrom in exchange for Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor.

Danton Heinen

This will be Heinen’s second stint with the Penguins. In the first one, he played in 121 games over two seasons. He recorded 55 points on 26 goals and 29 assists. The 29-year-old has played for four different teams. Heinen’s appeared in 538 career games recording 230 points on 93 goals and 137 assists. This season in 51 games with the Canucks he had 18 points in six goals and 12 assists.

Vincent Desharnais 

Desharnais is in his third season. He’s appeared in 148 career games recording 19 points on a goal and 18 assists. This season in 34 games with the Canucks he recorded three assists.

Melvin Fernstrom

Fernstrom is currently playing in the Swedish Hockey League with Orebro HK. In 35 games this season he has eight points on three goals and five assists. Fernstrom is still unsigned but the Penguins now own his rights.

Marcus Pettersson

Pettersson is in his eighth season. He’s appeared in 491 games recording 151 points on 17 goals and 134 assists. This season in 47 games he has 18 points on three goals and 15 assists.

Drew O’Connor 

O’Connor is in his fifth season. In 210 career games, O’Connor has recorded 66 points on 30 goals and 36 assists. This season in 53 games he has 16 points on six goals and ten assists.
