Earlier today, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced he signed Canucks forward Nils Hoglander to a two-year contract with an AAV of $1.1m.

Nils Hoglander Stats

Hoglander has played 141 games with the Canucks and totaled 54 points with a -14 rating. At age 22, he has a lot of room for growth and development as this Canucks team turns the corner into a playoff competitor.

The unique part of this signing is that it leaves the Canucks roughly $1.4m in cap space if Pearson and Poolman end up on LTIR again. If not, they’d be roughly $4.3m OVER the salary cap.

The Canucks are definitely not done this offseason, as they continue to be engaged in trade talks with other teams to help create some salary cap flexibility.

Edmonton Oilers Playoff Thoughts: Round 2, Game 2

It takes four wins to advance, but the Edmonton Oilers historically lose almost every Game 1. In their last 15 rounds, including Tuesday night, they’ve won only four series openers. Even in 2006, they only won one Game 1. If you include that Playoff run, just for laughs, the record is 5 Game 1 wins […]
