The Vegas Golden Knights announced Friday that center Brett Howden signed a five-year extension, carrying him through the 2029-30 season. According to team sources, the $12.5 million contract is worth an average annual value of $2.5 million. Howden, who could become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end, is in his fourth season after being acquired by the Golden Knights in a trade with the New York Rangers in 2021.
Howden, 26, has scored eight goals with one assist in 20 games with Vegas this season. The forward collected ten points during the 2023 postseason, winning a Stanley Cup with Vegas. Howden has 61 points (31 goals, 30 assists) in 193 regular-season games overall.
The Calgary native was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round, 27th overall, at the 2016 NHL Draft. Earlier this season, the Golden Knights continued to extend current core players as they signed defenseman Shea Theodore to a seven-year, $51.975 million contract ($7.425 million AAV) on October 24. The Golden Knights are 12-6-2 and play the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal on Saturday.
