Washington Capitals Sign 29 Year-Old Forward

The Washington Capitals signed 29-year-old forward Sheldon Rempal last night. He returns to North American hockey after spending the 2024-25 season in the KHL with Salavat Yulaev Ufa. In 68 games, he had 61 points on 31 goals and 30 assists. Rempal was a plus-seven and had 12 penalty minutes. In the KHL playoffs, he played in 19 games, recording 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists. He was a plus-four and had 14 penalty minutes. Rempal’s contract is a two-way contract, so if he doesn’t make the Capitals, he’ll be a top-line forward in the AHL for the Hershey Bears.

Rempal First Half Career

Rempal played two seasons at Clarkson University in the NCAA. In 78 games, he had 69 points on 34 goals and 35 assists. He was a +19 and had 48 penalty minutes. He signed with the Los Angeles Kings out of college. In the 2018-19 season, he appeared in seven games for Los Angeles. He was held pointless and finished as a minus-one. Rempal also played in 59 games for the Ontario Reign, where he had 40 points on 15 goals and 25 assists. He was a -28 with two power-play goals, a game-winning goal, and 25 penalty minutes.

In 2019-20, he played in 56 games for the Reign. He had 21 points on four goals and 17 assists. In 2020-21, he joined the Carolina Hurricanes in three games he was held pointless. He would also appear in 25 games for the Chicago Wolves, where he recorded 14 points on four goals and ten assists. He was a plus-two and had a shorthanded goal.

Rempal Second Half Career

In the 2021-22 season he was on the move again signing a two-way contract with the Vancouver Canucks, he would play in just one game for Vancouver and didn’t register a point and was a minus-one in that game. He did play in 55 games for the Abbotsford Canucks where he recorded a career high 69 points on a career-high 33 goals and he had 36 assists. Rempal was a plus-six with 14 power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and six game-winning goals.

On July 3, 2022, he signed a two-way contract with the Vegas Golden Knights. Rempal played in ten games for Vegas over two seasons, recording two goals and an assist. He was a minus-four and had a power-play goal. Rempal also played in 133 games for the Henderson Silver Knights over those two seasons. He recorded 108 points on 52 goals and 56 assists. He was a -18 with 19 power-play goals and ten game-winning goals.

Rempal Overall Career

Rempal has played in 328 career AHL games, recording 252 points on 108 goals and 144 assists. He is a -48 with 35 power-play goals, two shorthanded goals, and 17 game-winning goals. In 21 career NHL games, he has three points on two goals and an assist. He is a minus-six with a power-play goal.
