Washington Capitals Sign Ryan Leonard

The Washington Capitals will play tomorrow night against the Boston Bruins. Alex Ovechkin enters the game five goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s goal record. There will also be another name to watch as they’ve signed Ryan Leonard today after his Boston College career ended over the weekend. The 6’0″, 192 lbs center will make his debut against his hometown team. Leonard is from Amherst, MA. Leonard will wear number nine tomorrow night.

The Capitals drafted Leonard eighth overall in the 2023 draft. In 2023-24, he played his first season with the Boston College Eagles, recording 60 points on 31 goals and 29 assists. He was a +36 and had 38 penalty minutes. In the tournament, in four games, he had five points on four goals and an assist. Boston College lost in the National Championship to Denver 2-0 that year. He would play for Team USA in the World Juniors, playing in seven games, recording six points on three goals and three assists. Leonard was a plus-two.

This season in 37 games for the Eagles, he had 49 points on 30 goals and 19 assists. He was a +30. In the two games of this season’s NCAA Tournament, he had a goal and an assist, which came in the first game before they were eliminated in the next game by Denver once again. In the World Juniors, he played in seven games, recording ten points on five goals and five assists. Leonard was a plus-ten.
