What Does PWHL Boston Need At the Trade Deadline?

PWHL Boston is past halfway through their first inaugural season in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). The PWHL trade deadline is March 17th, what should Boston be doing before then to make a push for the playoffs?

The first and only trade from Boston goes back to February 11th, when Boston acquired forward Susanna Tapani and defender Abby Cook from PWHL Minnesota in exchange for defender Sophie Jacques. Since then, Tapani has recorded one goal and one assist in seven games with Boston. Abby Cook has recorded just one assist in six games with Boston. Boston has the lowest goals for with 30 and tied for second with the most goals against in the league. It is safe to say that there is an issue with scoring in Boston.

Forwards Loren Gabel and Taylor Girard lead Boston in goals with just four a piece. Combined this is a rough 26.67% out of all the goals from the team. One notably silent player on the roster has been the captain Hilary Knight. With just three goals and two assists it is clear she is in some slump.

With the trade deadline coming up, it wouldn’t be surprising if Boston made another trade. They are safe in a playoff spot for now, but their problems are on the ice and getting pucks in the back of the net.
