The Wichita Thunder added to their system on Thursday, signing Brock Badgers goalie Roman Basran.
Basran mainly played with the Kelowna Rockets during his junior career but was claimed by the Mississauga Steelheads for his overage season. Prior to signing, he played with the Brock Badgers playing in seven games posting a 5-2-0 record with a .917Sv% and a 2.54 GAA during the regular season.
Basran can add depth in net for the Thunder; however, they may have to be careful with how they manage his workload because when he was the starter for the Kelowna Rockets and even during his time with the Steelheads, his numbers weren’t the best, which may suggest that playing him as the backup is the safer route to take.
For Basran, one player on the Thunder brings some familiarity, Mark Liwiski. The two played together when they were part of the Kelowna Rockets organization for three seasons from 2018-2021.
This signing comes at a time when the Thunder are on a five-game losing streak and have only won three of their last 12 games. During that stretch, the offensive hasn’t been there for the Thunder, which is another area where they could look to improve on and potentially get some help from USPORTS.
At the time of this writing, there hasn’t been any official announcement from the team on when Basran would make his Thunder debut, but with the Utah Grizzlies rolling into town, it can certainly be expected for him to get a start in one of the two games.
