Wild acquire Marcus Johansson from Capitals

The Minnesota Wild have acquired right wing Marcus Johansson from the Washington Capitals via trade for a 2024 Third Round pick in the NHL Draft, ahead of the Friday, March 3rd Trade Deadline.

Johansson has played 60 games this season and has 28 points. This is his second stint for the Wild, as he played for the Wild during the 2020-2021 season via a trade with the Sabres that sent Eric Staal there. He was traded to the Seattle Kraken by the Wild in 2021. The right winger will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, with a salary of $1.1 million.

In 36 games with the Wild in 2021, Johansson had 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists). In his career, he has played 813 regular season games, scored 435 points (157 goals and 278 assists), and has scored 32 game-winning goals. He has played 103 games in playoffs, with 43 points and four game-winning goals.

Johansson was selected 24th Overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has played with the Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, and Seattle Kraken.

Though Johansson is not at his peak, he should add depth in scoring that Minnesota has been lacking and searching for this season. With them currently being third in the Central Division, they need a boost if they plan on succeeding in a potential playoff run.
