The Minnesota Wild have recalled defensemen Dakota Mermis and Daemon Hunt and forward Vinni Lettieri from the Iowa Wild and placed defenseman Jonas Brodin on Long Term Injured Reserve. This came after the unexpected news that the Assistant GM was leaving the front office.
Jonas Brodin was injured on a controversial hit from behind delivered by Evander Kane. The hit came less than a minute into the third period of the Wild’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. Brodin left the bench and didn’t return. There was no penalty called for the play. By going on LTIR, it means that Brodin will have to sit out at least 10 NHL games AND 24 days of the NHL season. Brodin has been spotted wearing a cast on his arm, likely for a broken bone.
Mermis was just reassigned to Iowa yesterday and played in their game against the Chicago Wolves last night. So far this season, Mermis has played 14 games with the Wild, and he currently has five points (three goals and two assists) with Minnesota. Mermis has passed the eye test whenever he’s hit the ice, able to keep up with the pace and chip in offensively from time to time.
Hunt comes back to the Wild after a stint traveling with them as a healthy scratch earlier in the season. During that time, he played five games with the Wild. Hunt has continually shown that he is ready for the NHL, playing more ice time with each showing. From 4:12 in his first game, Hunt logged 14:17 on the third pairing during his last appearance. Hunt doesn’t have any NHL points, but he does have nine points (on goal and eight assists) during his stint with the Iowa Wild.
Lettieri joins the Wild off of a successful night in Iowa. During last night’s game against the Wolves, Lettieri scored two of the three goals and scored during the shootout to win the game. This season, he’s played 13 games with Minnesota, where he has three points (two goals and an assist).
