Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Sign Goalie

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins saw their season come to an abrupt end. They lost in a first-round sweep to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the Calder Cup Playoffs. The Penguins finished as the four seed in the Atlantic Division. However, they were outscored 8–4 by the Phantoms in the first round, ultimately ending their playoff run. Today they signed a goalie as they inked Maxim Pavlenko to an AHL deal for the 2025-26 season. Pavlenko this season in seven games in VHL for Ryazan-VDV went 2-3-0 with a 2.81 goals-against average, a .901 save percentage, and a shutout.

Maxim Pavlenko

The 23-year-old, 6’5″, 181-pound goaltender spent last season in the VHL. Maxim Pavlenko made 25 appearances and posted a 7-13-1 record with a .923 save percentage, a 2.35 goals-against average, and one shutout. e previously played in Kazakhstan, gaining experience before moving to the VHL. With Nomad Astana he made ten appearances going 8-2-0 with a 1.72 goals-against average, a .939 save percentage, and a shutout. In four games with Snezhnye Barsy Astana he went 1-3-0 with a 3.13 goals-against average, and a .925 save percentage.

Wrap Up

It will be interesting to see what Wilkes-Barre/Scranton does in net for the 2025-26 season. Whatever they do, they will look to return and make a deep run in the Calder Cup playoffs.
