Winnipeg Jets Announce Second Round of Training Camp Cuts

The Winnipeg Jets have narrowed their training camp groups down from two to just one. Ville Heinola and Logan Stanley being on injured reserve opens up a completely different window of opportunity for the Jets’ defensive depth. See below the players who were cut from the one remaining Jets’ training camp group.

Per Murat Ates of The Athletic, there will be no further cuts from training camp today.

Goaltenders:

Goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis was reassigned to the Manitoba Moose. DiVincentiis was a 2022 seventh-round draft selection at 207th overall. He’s spent the past three seasons with the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League. DiVincentiis will likely begin the 2024-25 season with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.

Forwards:

Daniel Torgersson and Parker Ford were assigned to the Manitoba Moose. Brayden Yager and Colby Barlow were reassigned to their respective junior hockey clubs.

Torgersson, a 2020 second-round draft selection at 40th overall, is entering his fourth season with the Manitoba Moose. He’s posted 32 points (14G, 18A) in 125 AHL games, all with the Moose. He’s been a solid depth piece for the Moose and will likely take an expanded role with the team this season.

Ford signed with the Winnipeg Jets franchise in the 2022-23 season as a college free agent. He spent four seasons in the NCAA with Providence College before making his professional jump with the Manitoba Moose. The 2023-24 season was Ford’s first full season with the team where he posted 41 points (18G, 23A) in 72 games.

Yager was acquired by the Jets in a one-for-one trade for Rutger McGroarty in the 2024 offseason. He’s spent the past four seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors and will spend a fifth year with the team this season. He’s taken a big step in his game and didn’t look out of place whatsoever at training camp. Yager is an exciting prospect to watch for the Jets and he proved that at the teams’ Young Stars Classic appearance in Penticton and a couple of preseason games. Yager might be traded to another WHL team this season which creates an interesting storyline with a Jets prospect in junior.

Barlow, the Jets’ 18th overall draft selection in 2023 has taken a step forward in his game as well. He was reassigned to his junior club, the Owen Sound Attack where he is rumoured to be traded to another OHL club. Barlow has spent the past three seasons with his junior club, even spending the 2022-23 season as captain of the team. He’s suited up in three Moose games, scoring three points (1G, 2A) at the end of the 2023-24 season.
