Winnipeg Jets Organizational Transactions (11/12/2024)

A handful of roster and organizational moves have happened with the Winnipeg Jets over the past few days. A summary of the moves is provided below.

  • Jaret Anderson-Dolan was taken off the injured reserve and assigned to the Manitoba Moose on Friday, November 8th.
  • Logan Stanley was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Saturday, November 9th.
  • Ville Heinola is skating in a regular contact jersey as of Tuesday, November 12th but has not been activated off of injured reserve yet.
  • The Winnipeg Jets have claimed goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen off waivers from the Colorado Avalanche and assigned him to the Manitoba Moose on Tuesday, November 12th.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan

A minor move that happened over the weekend, the Winnipeg Jets activated forward Jaret Anderson-Dolan. They reassigned him to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League this past Saturday.

Anderson-Dolan signed a two-year contract worth $775,000 annually with the Jets on the second day of the 2024 free-agency period. He wound up on the injured reserve shortly before the regular season started due to a broken foot.

His three pre-season contests saw him remain scoreless other than posting a plus-minus of plus-one. If the last few seasons are any indication of his trajectory for the 2024-25 season, he’ll likely spend most of his time in the AHL.

He’s set to make his Manitoba Moose debut on Wednesday, November 13th against the Milwaukee Admirals for a school day game in Milwaukee. He’ll help out a struggling Moose team that’s struggled to gain any traction so far as the team has started the year with a win-loss record of 3-5-0-0 and sit seventh in their division.

Logan Stanley

It seems that Logan Stanley has found himself with a second injury in the 2024-25 season. It’s not at all good news as Stanley sustained a mid-body injury in Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars. The Jets’ 6-foot-7 defender is not travelling with the team this week.

Stanley missed the first four games of the season after undergoing minor knee surgery. When he is in the lineup, he’s recorded three points (1G, 2A) with a plus-minus of plus-six while averaging roughly 15:13 per night.

It is unclear at this time what the timeline for Stanley’s injury looks like.

Ville Heinola

Ville Heinola has had his last two seasons tattooed with injuries. Seemingly making the 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets roster out of training camp, Heinola broke his ankle in the final preseason game and faced another setback in his young NHL career.

This year, he found himself on the shelf again with an ankle infection to the same ankle he had surgically repaired and the timeline was said to be indefinite.

Heinola spent the past two weeks skating on his own before finding his way back to a non-contact jersey not too long ago. Even with the infected ankle, Heinola remained focused on earning an NHL spot by practicing his stickhandling long after practices ended.

The Jets might opt to send Heinola to the Manitoba Moose via conditioning loan as he’s not waivers exempt, but that can only last up to two weeks at maximum.

Kaapo Kahkonen

The Winnipeg Jets have re-claimed Kaapo Kahkonen off waivers from the Colorado Avalanche.

The Jets were the only team to put a claim in for Kahkonen which made them eligible to send the goaltender down to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

This move provides the Moose with a veteran goaltender to mentor Domenic DiVincentiis and/or Thomas Milic. It is unclear if the Moose will send one of DiVincentiis or Milic down to the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL, but it is expected that the Moose will stick with two goaltenders.

The Jets placed Kahkonen on waivers on October 11th and was picked up by Colorado the following day. He appeared in one game for the Avalanche, a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 30th. He later made two starts for the AHL’s Colorado Eagles where he amassed a 0-2-0-0 win-loss record while posting a 2.57 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.

He started the year originally signing a one-year, $1 million deal with the Jets during the off-season. With six seasons of NHL experience between the Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils, Kahkonen is an intriguing third goaltender to have in the Jets’ system. His career win-loss record sits at 132-49-68 with a 3.34 GAA and a .898 SV%.
