The Winnipeg Jets placed defenseman Dylan Coghlan on waivers today to reassign him to the Manitoba Moose. The move comes one day ahead of the 2024 NHL Roster Freeze for the Christmas holidays.
The Duncan, British Columbia native has previously played for the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes.
Coghlan was acquired by the Jets in the 2024 offseason for future considerations. He’s played just one game this season against his former NHL team, the Vegas Golden Knights, in a Jets uniform where he did not record a point. Coghlan looked good in that one contest
The 26-year-old has 107 career NHL to date where he’s recorded 22 points (6G, 16A) across five NHL seasons. His best season came in 2021-22 with the Vegas Golden Knights where he tied his career high in goals (3) and set his career high for assists (10) and points (13).
He’s found a lot of success in the American Hockey League (AHL) where he’s played four seasons scoring 108 points (44G, 64A) in 192 games.
There was speculation that Nikita Chibrikov’s current run of NHL games could be coming to an end, but after today’s roster moves, it’s clear that the Jets want to take more of a look at the young forward. In this move ahead of the NHL roster freeze, Coghlan found himself on waivers.
If Coghlan clears, he will be assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL and bring a much-needed veteran presence to the team.
The Jets, who are in action tonight against the Anaheim Ducks, made the waiver move after activating Nikolaj Ehlers off injured reserve today. The Moose do not play until Friday, December 20th as they kick off a home-stand versus the Grand Rapids Griffins.
