The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Kieron Walton to a three-year entry-level contract, solidifying the future of one of their most promising late-round pick from the 2024 NHL Draft.
Walton, 19, was selected 187th overall by the Jets last June, and he has since become one of the most talked-about breakout players in Canadian junior hockey.
The towering 6-foot-6, 216-pound center from Toronto, Ontario, has been a force this season with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves, posting a dominant 92 points (38 goals, 54 assists) in just 66 games. His offensive explosion has turned heads league-wide and drawn praise from scouts, analysts, and team executives alike.
Known for his blend of reach, puck protection, and increasingly dangerous playmaking ability, Walton’s rise has been meteoric.
His size adds to his offensive game, and he easily maintains and protects the puck. Scouting reports note that his production and work ethic are inconsistent, but more opportunity and experience should help him improve in this area of his game.
Once considered a long-term project, he quickly proved he belonged in the conversation of top-tier prospects, especially after dominant showings against some of the OHL’s toughest defensive matchups.
If Walton’s game can transition to the American Hockey League (AHL) and NHL levels, he has the potential to become an impactful top-six playmaking power forward with contributions to special teams. At worst, Walton can be seen as a reliable top-nine to bottom-six depth piece.
The Jets have not confirmed whether Walton will join the Manitoba Moose on an amateur tryout for the remainder of the season. Regardless, this move signals Winnipeg’s investment in Walton’s NHL future — and he may not be far from making his mark at the next level.
