Winnipeg Looking To Make Deadline Splash By Acquiring Star Forward

The Winnipeg Jets have been one of the surprising teams this season as they are currently second in both the Central Division and the Western Conference with a 31-16-1 recorded and 63 points. After missing the playoffs last season, the Jets have rebounded and are poised for a postseason run. With their success this season, expect the team to be big buyers at the trade deadline. They have already been linked to several players with one big name on their radar, with the deadline less than six weeks away.

According to The Fourth Period, they have reported that the Jets are one of the teams interested in star winger Timo Meier.

After having a career year last season, Meier has picked up right where he left off as he is set to have the third 30-goal campaign of his career and is on pace to set a new career high in goals. Meier has 28 goals, 20 assists, and 48 points on the season. He has been a key member of the Sharks’ powerplay with 12 goals and 16 points.

When looking at Winnipeg’s roster, it is clear that they could use another top-tier forward on offense. Meier would step in and absolutely provide them with that, as he is a proven top-six winger. While Meier’s numbers are impressive on a bad Sharks team, he would have so much more potential with the Jets as he would be playing with far better offensive weapons.

The Jets may find themselves in a bidding war for the star, as it is clear they will have a lot of competition to acquire him. It will be a wait-and-see for Jets fans as anything can happen leading up to the March 3rd trade deadline. One thing is for sure the Jets will be active buyers at the deadline as they go all in for a playoff run.
