The Anaheim Ducks and Trevor Zegras have finally come to an agreement for a contract, ending the contract standoff. Zegras signed a three-year contract worth $5.75 million annually. Prior to this, the Anaheim Ducks and Trevor Zegras were far off in negotiations. The Ducks reportedly only wanted to pay no more than $4 million, while Zegras sought a contract similar to teammate Troy Terry.

Zegras has been a strong personality with the Anaheim Ducks since he entered the league in the 2020-21 season. Since then, Zegras has constantly posted career-high numbers, including back-to-back 23-goal seasons and a career-high in assists (42) in the 2022-23 season. Zegras has played 180 games with the Anaheim Ducks, scoring 49 goals and 90 assists for 139 points in his tenure.

Zegras’s new contract is a short-term contract that is set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season. This is going to be a contract that will bite the Anaheim Ducks in the rear when they need to offer him a new contract during the 2026 off-season. If the Anaheim Ducks become as competitive as they hope to be, they should’ve locked Zegras up now to a long-term deal. Here’s to hoping that the Ducks and Zegras can agree to a long-term deal when his current contract expires.
