2023 Draft Prospect Profile: Samuel Honzek

Samuel Honzek was born Nov 12, 2004 in Trencin, Slovakia. He has played for his home country of Slovakia in a few international tournaments. Samuel has also played for a couple of different teams arranged by age groups for the HK Dukla Trencin.

Honzek is a center that stands at 6 ‘4, weighs 185 lbs, and shoots left-handed. He played this season with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants. In his 43 games he played for the Giants this year, he took 134 shots, scored on 23 of them, assisted 33 goals, which gave him 56 total points. Of his 23 goals, four were on a power play, four were first goals, four were game-winning goals, and two were on short handed plays. Of his 33 assists, 12 were on a power play. He spent 16 total minutes in the penalty box. Of his 60 attempted faceoffs, he won 33, giving him a total faceoff percentage of 55%. Overall, he averaged to about 1.30 points per game and 0.37 penalty minutes per game.

Personally, I think Honzek will add strength, skilled skating, great puck and stick handling, as well as good leadership to whichever team drafts him. Hopefully we’ll see him as a future NHL star.
