2023 NHL Draft Profile: Jakub Stancl

Jakub Stancl is the 6’3” 201 pounds Czechia-born forward for the Växjö Lakers U20 team, where he scored 11-6-17 in 35 games.

Strengths

Jakub comes into the draft with a nearly NHL-ready size. He has a good frame that should be able to add more strength to it. He plays a smart, safe two-way game that should translate to the PK and EV. Stancl also has a decent shot that should allow him to have enough offense to be playable.

Weakness’s

Stancl definitely needs some work on his skating, especially in tight quarters. He also has a tendency to float and seem disengaged from time to time. He needs to find a spark to bring it every night and shift.

Summary

If he continues to improve his skating and work ethic, Stancl should find a home in the NHL as a good bottom-six center to someone in the third-fourth round area. If his skating improves dramatically, he may even have some higher potential than that.
