The Coachella Valley Firebirds announced the signing of Forward Damien Giroux on Tuesday afternoon.

Giroux is a 24 year-old forward that plays both center and left-wing. He was selected 44th overall in the OHL Priority Selection in 2016 by the Saginaw Spirit where he spent four seasons. During the 2018-19 and the 2019-20 season he was appointed captain after being an Alternate Captain during the 2017-18 season. He amassed a total of 194 points over 254 games (101 goals, 93 assists.)

Following his time with the Saginaw Spirit, Giroux was selected in the fifth-round, 155th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Giroux went on to play for the AHL Iowa Wild for the next three seasons, where he had his NHL Debut with the Minnesota Wild. During his time with the Iowa Wild he played in 149 games at the AHL level with 48 points across those games.

Following the 2022-23 season, Giroux was a free agent after not being re-signed by the Wild. He was unable to come to terms on an NHL contract but was signed to a one-year deal with the AHL Rochester Americans, affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. While with the Americans he played 30 games with the Rochester Americans and had a total of 11 points (four goals, seven assists) and their ECHL affiliate, the Jacksonville Icemen where he had 15 points over 17 games (seven goals, eight assists).

Giroux is continuing in the AHL after being signed by the Coachella Valley Firebirds for the 2024-25 season, where he will be a great depth addition.

I grew up in Seattle mostly following baseball as a kid and more recently got into hockey. Since then it’s been my favorite thing, I love the community surrounding it, the people it’s brought into my life, the opportunities and of course the game itself. When I’m not watching hockey I spend a lot of time outside with my dog and following all kinds of other sports!
