Anthony Stolarz Leaves Game One Against Florida Panthers

Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers kicked off the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Maple Leafs currently lead 4-1 in the second period behind two goals from William Nylander, and goals from Morgan Reilly and Chris Tanev. The Panthers’ lone goal came from defenseman Seth Jones. In the middle of the second period, Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz left the game following an elbow to the head from Panthers forward Sam Bennett. The spotter made the decision to pull Stolarz from the game. Joseph Woll replaced him in net. Stolarz had made eight saves on nine shots before he was lifted from the game.

Entering tonight, Stolarz was posting a 2.21 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. Stolarz was coincidentally the backup for the Florida Panthers last season when they won the Stanley Cup. He appeared in one game for the Panthers in the playoffs last season. It came in relief, and he allowed three goals on 19 shots in an 8-1 loss in Game Four of the Stanley Cup.

Stolarz is in the first season of a two-year contract with the Maple Leafs. In 34 games this season he went 21-8-3 with a .926 save percentage, a 2.14 goal-against average, and four shutouts.
