The Minnesota Wild announced today that they have re-signed forward Mason Shaw to a two-way, league-minimum contract for the remainder of the season. Shaw recently returned to the ice with the Iowa Wild and quickly proved that he was ready to return to Minnesota. In 9 games with the Iowa Wild, Shaw put up 7 points, 3 goals and 4 assists.
Shaw tore his ACL during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights in April 2023. This is the fourth time that Shaw has had the same injury, twice in each leg. But despite his injury, Shaw was determined to make it back to the NHL. After undergoing surgery, he stayed in Minnesota over the summer to rehab and get back on his feet.
Last season, Shaw started the season in Iowa and was named the captain. But only 2 games into Minnesota’s season, he was recalled and eventually told that it was permanent. A beloved presence on the fourth line, Shaw was also an integral part of the penalty kill. During his 62 games with the Minnesota Wild last season, he had 17 points.
With Shaw returning, Adam Beckman was reassigned to the Iowa Wild without hitting the ice in Minnesota. He was healthy scratched for the games he was with Minnesota. Forward Marcus Foligno has been out with injury and it sounds like it will still be a while before he comes back. Shaw’s re-signing came at the perfect time.
