Boston Bruins Invite Two Prospects to Rookie Camp

Boston Bruins Rookie Camp is less than a month away, and General Manager Don Sweeney is identifying invites to fill out the roster. On Thursday, Sweeney added 18-year-old goaltender Keegan Warren to the invite list for camp, which begins on September 11.

The Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador native played last season for the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Warren played in 23 games and posted a 13-6-1 record with a 3.19 goals against average and an .899 save percentage. In 2021, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound netminder was chosen in the 14th round, 242nd overall, by Moncton in the QMJHL Draft.

In the 2024 NHL Draft Guide, Elite Prospects described Warren as a goalie who “plays a very unassuming style without much need for desperation. His game is about tracking the puck, controlling rebounds, and setting himself up well for second or third opportunities, should they arise. He adjusts well off the rush, keeping a narrow stance, and can react to quick changes in shooting angles very swiftly”.

The goalie depth for the Bruins has been a strength. Aside from the NHL goalies, Brandon Bussi, Michael DiPietro, and Ryan Bischel have one-year contracts with the Providence Bruins, and Philip Svedeback is entering his junior season at Providence College.

Warren’s Moncton teammate for the upcoming season, center Markus Vidicek, is also projected to attend Bruins camp. The 20-year-old from Montreal scored 45 goals with 43 assists for Halifax in the QMJHL last season. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound forward is entering his fifth season in the league.

Vidicek had the following scout from Elite Prospects in the 2022 NHL Draft Guide: “When he’s not battling for pucks, he’s supporting. With the puck on his stick, he doesn’t just shoot immediately, preferring to build the play and try to hit teammates on the inside lane. Many of his reads are quite advanced, like spotting a moving teammate on the other side of the defense”.
