The Boston Bruins have acquired forward Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings, per multiple sources. The Red Wings will receive a protected 2024 first-round pick (top-10) and a 2025 fourth-round pick. Detroit will also retain 50% of Bertuzzi’s salary. Recent injuries to left wings Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno have caused General Manager Don Sweeney to make a significant addition to the forward group.
Bertuzzi scored 30 goals with 32 assists last season for Detroit. This season, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound winger has four goals with ten assists in an injury-shortened season. Bertuzzi provides a tough, goal-scoring forward to add to a team that has the most goals in the National Hockey League.
The Sudbury, Ontario native was a second-round pick (58th overall) of the Red Wings in 2013. The 28-year-old carries a salary cap hit of $4.75 million (Detroit is retaining 50 percent) and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. In his career, Bertuzzi has registered 80-114-202 in 305 career regular season games. Bertuzzi has yet to play a postseason game in his career.
The Bruins lost Taylor Hall to a lower-body injury. Hall is now seeking a second opinion on the injury. Nick Foligno was injured in a 4-3 win over Calgary Tuesday night. Currently, the Bruins have Foligno listed day-to-day. Both could be candidates for Long Term Injured Reserve for salary cap purposes. The Bruins are in first place in the Atlantic Division with 99 points. The Red Wings are in seventh place in the Atlantic with 64 points.
