This evening, the Colorado Avalanche announced they had acquired Brock Nelson and William Dufour from the New York Islanders in exchange for prospect Calum Ritchie, defenseman Oliver Kylington, a 2026 first-round pick, and a conditional 2028 third-round pick. As part of the deal, the Islanders retained 50% of Nelson’s salary.

Brock Nelson, 33, is in his 12th season with the New York Islanders. In his 12 seasons, Nelson has scored 20 goals nine times in his career. Along with his offensive talents, being one of the top centers on the market made him one of the top trade targets. Nelson also touts impressive playoff production with 27 goals and 23 assists in 78 playoff games.

The Islanders receive one of the Avalanche’s top prospects in Calum Ritchie, the 27th overall pick in the 2023 draft, along with the first and third round picks.

Defenseman Oliver Kylington was immediately flipped to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Future Considerations.
