Each year, the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) names nominees from each of the 32 teams for the Bill Masterton trophy, awarded to the player in the league that best exemplifies sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication to the sport of hockey.
This season’s nominee from the Arizona Coyotes is goaltender Connor Ingram, his first nomination in his short 80 game NHL career.
Ingram is amidst his best season, posting career highs in record (20-20-3), goals against average (2.88) and save percentage (.909) as well as tied for league lead in shutouts with Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry with six.
Prior to the 2021-22 season, Ingram enrolled in the NHL Player Assistance Program after almost retiring due to a bout with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) as well as depression.
Other nominees across the league include Sidney Crosby for the Penguins, former Coyote Oliver Ekman-Larsson with the Florida Panthers, Jonathan Quick of the New York Rangers, Curtis Lazar of the New Jersey Devils, as well as Arizona State University alumni Joey Daccord with the Seattle Kraken, longtime St. Louis Blue TJ Oshie with the Washington Capitals, Alex Lyon of the Detroit Red Wings, Joel Armia with the Montreal Candiens and Frederik Andersen of the Carolina Hurricanes.
The winner of the Bill Masterton will be announced at the NHL Awards on June 26th, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the MSG Sphere, the site of the 2024 NHL Draft.
