Coyotes Calling Up Roadrunners Point Leader

Coyotes forward Jason Zucker has been suspended for three games following the hit on Nick Cousins. In this case, the Coyotes are once again shorthanded in the lineup. Dealing with injuries and Zucker’s suspension, the team has finally given a shot for Tucson Roadrunner forward Dylan Guenther.

The Kid Is Alright

Dylan Guenther, the team’s point leader, has been tearing it up in Tucson. Having ten goals and 18 assists in 29 games played for Tucson, it was only a matter of time before Guenther got the call-up. But Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong has stressed that this is an “emergency basis” call-up due to Zucker’s suspension. Armstrong plans on sending Guenther back down once Zucker’s suspension is over. That’s not going to stop Guenther from playing the best game he can with the Coyotes and maybe avoid a recall.

Guenther, being a 2021 first-round pick (#9 overall), has shown frustrations not being on the Coyotes lineup this year and some of last year. Being sent back to the WHL after a short stint in the NHL and also being sent down to Tucson has ultimately led Guenther to develop into a top 6 forward. Instead of pouting, the 20-year-old forward took the time to keep working his game and only becoming better. Being here short-term for Guenther, he has lots to prove if he wants GM Armstrong to keep in the pros. Zucker has two games remaining in his suspension, so the talented young forward has little time to prove himself he belongs in the NHL. Coyotes play tonight vs. the Winnipeg Jets(1/7/24), and we can see Guenther being paired with Matias Maccelli and Jack Mcbain tonight.
