Dallas Stars Theme Night Thoughts

NBC 5 Sports

In case you missed it, the Dallas Stars announced their 2023-24 theme night schedule on August 16, 2023.

According to NHL.com, select nights will feature exclusive player-autographed-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off by the Dallas Stars Foundation and include various in-game fundraisers, and the full details on each theme night will be announced before the game.

Here are the Stars’ six theme nights (and my thoughts on all of them).

1. Military and Veterans Appreciation Night presented by Boeing
The Stars salute those who serve.

Each year, November 11 is Veteran’s Day. It isn’t just a federal holiday but also to honor and thank those who served their country.

The Stars will honor military veterans on Military and Veterans Appreciation Night, presented by Boeing, on November 6, 2023, versus the Boston Bruins. Like the rest of the league, Dallas’ decision to host this night was the right call, as veterans — past and present — deserve to be honored and thanked.

And, if you served our country, thank you for your service.

2. Hockey Fights Cancer Night
Each year, November is Hockey Fights Cancer Month across the NHL. Hockey Fights Cancer (HFC) was founded in 1998 by the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA). HFC unites the hockey community, supporting cancer patients and their families.

The Stars will host Hockey Fights Cancer Night on November 20, 2023, versus the New York Rangers. As a result, Dallas can help the American Cancer Society and the Canadian Cancer Society improve the quality of life for patients, caregivers, and their families. That’s a win-win situation.

Don’t forget to participate in the HFC warmup-worn jersey auction online after warmups — especially if you like lavender like I do.

3. Black History Night
The Stars will host Black History Night on February 26, 2024, versus the New York Islanders.

February is Black History Month each year. Last season, Dallas celebrated Black History Night by sporting special warmup jerseys and turning PNC Plaza into a Black-owned business market. Black men and women and their career milestones, achievements, awards, and accolades deserve to be recognized by their local communities.

At the end of the day, many hockey organizations can make the game more diverse and inclusive for a better space moving forward.

4. Hispanic Heritage Night
Aside from Black History Night, Dallas will recognize Hispanic heritage on Hispanic Heritage Night, presented by Ford, on March 12, 2024, versus the Florida Panthers.

The vibrant Latino/Hispanic culture, particularly Mexican-American culture, is a part of the rich diversity in the Lone Star State. From authentic Mexican cuisine to Tex-Mex entrees, you’ll likely find a meal you’ll like on Hispanic Heritage Night. Oh, and don’t forget the Mexican-inspired merchandise!

5. Pride Night
The Stars will host the Arizona Coyotes on Pride Night, presented by PNC Bank, on March 20, 2024.

The Stars’ annual Pride Night will start with the players taking the ice to try and beat the Coyotes on home ice in front of the home crowd.

Hockey is for Everyone, and Pride Night will be the perfect outing for hockey fans in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.

6. Fan Appreciation Night
The Stars will host their Central Division rival, the St. Louis Blues, on Fan Appreciate Night on April 17, 2024. As expected, Dallas will treat their fans to a great night of special giveaways and prizes in their final regular-season home game at the American Airlines Center.

If you’re a Stars fan, you shouldn’t skip Fan Appreciation Night. The players’ and coaches’ hard work will pay off, and fans — like you — deserve to end the fun-filled regular season on a positive note.

Which one of the Stars’ theme nights are you most looking forward to this season? Let me know in the comments!
