Detroit Red Wings October Prospect Check-In

Red Wings Prospect Check In March

The 2023-24 hockey season is in full swing, and the first month of the season for the NHL and AHL has ended, and we’ve reached November. The Detroit Red Wings are currently 6-3-1 and in second place in the Atlantic Division. They still have a lot of hockey to play this season, with 72 games still left on the schedule, which also includes a trip to Sweden in the middle of this month. The Red Wings affiliates are off to a combined 3-3-2-0. Their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, is currently 2-3-1-0, while their ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye, are 1-0-1-0. Today, we recap the first month for the Red Wings top prospects and how they are doing. The top five prospects, according to NHL.com, are Simon Edvinsson, Marco Kasper, Nate Danielson, Axel Sandin-Pellikka, and Carter Mazur; some of those prospects are playing in other leagues. A few other names we will check in on are William Wallinder, Sebastian Cossa, Trey Augustine, Elmer Soderblom, Amadeus Lombardi, Red Savage, and Alexandre Doucet.

Red Wings Prospects By The Numbers

Simon Edvinsson

Edvinsson is currently playing in the AHL with Grand Rapids, and through their first six games, he has three points, which is tied for second on the team along with six other players; the points come on two goals and an assist, he also has 12 penalty minutes and is currently a minus four.

Marco Kasper

Kasper has also played in six games for Grand Rapids, and he has recorded only one point coming on a goal; he has four penalty minutes and is a minus-one.

Nate Danielson

Danielson, who the Red Wings drafted ninth overall in this past draft, is currently playing in the Western Hockey League in Canada with the Brandon Wheat Kings, and in nine games, he has eight points coming on two goals and six assists; he has six penalty minutes and is a zero in the plus/minus category.

Axel Sandin-Pellikka

Sandin-Pellikka, another first-round pick for the Red Wings in this past draft when he was taken 17th overall, is currently playing in the Swedish Hockey League, and he has seven points in his first 14 games coming on six goals and an assist; he has seven penalty minutes and is a plus one to start the year.

Carter Mazur

Mazur is returning from a lower-body injury he suffered during the Traverse City Prospect Tournament. He missed all of training camp but was activated yesterday off of injured reserve and was sent to Grand Rapids, where he is expected to make his season debut tonight when the Griffins play.

William Wallinder

Wallinder is playing in the AHL with Grand Rapids and has appeared in six games this season, recording just one point coming on a goal; he has not recorded a penalty and is currently a minus-two.

Sebastian Cossa

Cossa is the Red Wings’ hot goalie prospect that everyone around the organization is keeping an eye on; he is currently playing with Grand Rapids, and he has made three starts, going 1-1-1, posting a 2.38 GAA and a .931 save percentage; he has looked good and kept the Griffins in games in all three starts he has made.

Trey Augustine

Augustine is another Red Wings pick from the 2023 draft, as he was selected in the second round at 41 overall. He plays for Michigan State University and has made seven starts, going 4-2-0 with a 3.65 GAA and a .894 save percentage.

Elmer Soderblom

Soderblom is barely a prospect, having played 21 games for Detroit last season, but he’s still someone to keep an eye on. In Grand Rapids, he has played in six games and has recorded only one point coming on an assist; he has stayed out of the penalty box and is currently a minus-three.

Amadeus Lombardi

Lombardi is coming off a 100-point season when he played in the Ontario Hockey League. He is currently playing in Grand Rapids and, in six games, only has one point coming on an assist; he has also not recorded a penalty and is a minus-two.

Red Savage

Savage is currently playing with Augustine at Michigan State University, and he has played in eight games for the Spartans and has put up 11 points, coming on four goals and seven assists; he has six penalty minutes and is a plus six. It is expected when Michigan State’s season ends, he could sign and join Grand Rapids.

Alexandre Doucet

Doucet is playing with the Red Wings ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye, and he is making a case to be called up to the AHL. In two games for the Walleye, he has five points coming on three goals and two assists; he has not recorded any penalty time, he is a plus-two, and two of his three goals have come on the power play.

Wrap Up

The Red Wings will return to the ice tomorrow night against the Florida Panthers. The Red Wings AHL affiliate will play tonight against the Cleveland Monsters, the Columbus Blue Jackets affiliate. Their ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye, will return on Friday night when they take on the Reading Royals, the ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers.
