ECHL: Adirondack Thunder Sign Mike Gillespie

The Adirondack Thunder, for the second straight week, have announced a new signing as Mike Gillespie has signed a contract with the Thunder after the team signed Tristan Ashbrook last Tuesday; Ashbrook has played three games with Adirondack since being signed. Gillespie,27, spent the last two seasons with the Birmingham Bulls. Last year, he put up 27 goals and 33 assists for 60 points in just 38 games last season and was named to the SPHL All-First Team, and this season, in just two games, has five goals and an assist. Adirondack has been losing bodies left and right as Yanick Turcotte announced he was going overseas. Erik Middendorf and Filip Engaras were recalled to Utica. T.J. Friedmann left yesterday’s game with an injury and didn’t return. Shawn Weller and Zach Walker are both on the IR with no timetable for their return. The New York native spent his final three collegiate seasons at SUNY-Oswego, where he put up 23 goals and 51 assists for 74 points in 76 games. This is a solid signing for the Thunder, who lose Middendorf to Utica for the time being after he put up four points in the last two games for the time being. With Adirondack having a three-in-three this weekend, it wouldn’t be a shock if we see Gillespie find his way into the Thunder lineup at some point over the weekend.
