ECHL: Allen Americans Hank Crone Wins MVP

Hank Crone was already named Rookie of the Year, ECHL All-Rookie Team, and All-ECHL First team adds to his trophy collection as he was named the league MVP. The Texas native finished the year with 49 goals and 56 assists for 105 points in 69 games. He lead the league in goals (49) and points with 105 points becoming the first rookie since Dustin Gazley did it with the Elmira Jackals during the 2011-12 season. Crone already has three assists in two Kelly Cup Playoff games. Crone becomes only the sixth rookie to win the MVP award, joining Ryan Zapolski, David Desharnais, Frederic Cloutier, Bill MacDougall, and Darryl Harpe. The 25-year-old forward becomes the first Allen American to do it since the Americans coach Chad Costello won the award back-to-back in 2016 and 2017. In a press release from the Americans, Crone said, “I’m very honored to receive this award,” said Crone. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and the belief from our coaching staff. I’m super lucky to play close to home and especially in a place like Allen. I would also like to thank our great fans for the amazing support for our group throughout the year.”

Zach O’Brien (Newfoundland Growlers), Brandon Hawkins (Toledo Walleye), John Lethemon (Toledo Walleye) and Matt Register (Idaho Steelheads) rounded out the top five in voting.
