The ECHL announced a trade between the Toledo Walleye and the Atlanta Gladiators over the weekend. (12/7). Added to Atlanta’s roster was Anthony Firriolo. Firriolo, born on July 3, 1998, in Towaco, New Jersey, played college hockey for the Army West Point Black Knights. At Army West Point, Firriolo’s game matured significantly. He became known for his strong defensive skills and ability to also contribute offensively. During his senior year, he had a standout season with 24 assists and 29 points, marking his best college performance. His consistent play and leadership on the ice were crucial for his team.

Professional Career

Before starting his professional career, Firriolo participated in the Atlanta Gladiators’ training camp. Anthony Firriolo began his professional hockey career with the Jacksonville Icemen, where he played five games and recorded one assist. He then moved to the Indy Fuel, scoring his first professional goal and taking part in nine games with the team. Firriolo continued his journey with the Iowa Heartlanders, playing 21 games and tallying two more goals and adding an additional eight assists. His next stop was with the Tulsa Oilers, where he scored a goal and put up three assists in seven games.

In the 2024-25 season, he played two games for the Toledo Walleye before being traded to the Atlanta Gladiators over the weekend. Firriolo’s journey through various teams in the ECHL showcases his adaptability and determination to succeed at the professional level. His ability to contribute both offensively and defensively makes him a valuable player on the ice.

Anthony Firriolo fits well into the Atlanta Gladiators’ strategy due to his offensive capabilities and strong skating skills. In a July 2023 press release ahead of the 2023-24 season, Head Coach Derek Nesbitt highlighted Firriolo’s offensive ability and skill set, noting that his skating is a significant asset for the team. Firriolo’s experience and leadership from his time at Army West Point, where he served as captain and led all defenders in scoring during his junior and senior seasons, will make him a valuable addition to the Gladiators. He has already taken to the ice with the Gladiators, appearing with the team in last night’s game against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
