The Cincinnati Cyclones have named Riley Weselowski as the team’s seventh head coach in franchise history. Weselowski had spent the previous four seasons with the Kansas City Mavericks as an assistant and associate coach. During his time in Kansas City, the Mavericks made it to back-to-back Western Conference Finals and won the Brabham Cup in 2024. Riley Weselowski replaces Jason Payne, who the Cyclones fired in April after spending six seasons with Cincinnati.
Prior to coaching, the Pilot Mound, Manitoba, native spent 13 years as a player with the Rapid City Rush, Cincinnati Cyclones, Florida Everblades, and Wichita Thunder. In 720 games in the CHL/ECHL, he would put up 47 goals and 192 assists for 239 points as a defenceman. Weselowski would win a CHL Championship in 2010 with the Rush and then would be named to the ECHL All-Star Game in 2020 as a member of the Wichita Thunder.
“I’m thrilled with the opportunity to be the next head coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones,” said Weselowski. “My family and I are excited to become a part of the Cincinnati community. I’m grateful to Ray Harris and Kristin Ropp for their trust to lead one of the ECHL’s premier organizations and ready to get to work as we build a team that Cincinnati fans can get excited about.”

This is a smart move for the Cyclones, as they bring in someone who not only has had recent success, but also someone who has previously been part of their organization. Weselowski will look to bring the Cyclones back to the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2022-23 season.
