ECHL: Kansas City Mavericks Win 2024 Brabham Cup

Kansas City Mavericks/ECHL

The Kansas City Mavericks have clinched the 2024 Brabham Cup for the most points in the ECHL with a 7-4 victory over the Utah Grizzlies on Friday Night in Utah and will have home-ice advantage throughout the Kelly Cup Playoffs. For the Mavericks, it’s fitting that they clinch the Brabham Cup on the road for their ECHL Record 28th road win of the season. Goaltender Jack LaFontaine would pick up his 16th victory of the season as the Mavericks became the first ECHL team to have three goaltenders that have at least 16 wins on the season; Cale Morris leads the team with 18 wins, and Dillon Kelly also has 16 wins this season. Kansas City currently sits at 51-11-4-2 with 108 points this season and was the first team this season to reach the 100-point plateau as only two other teams are capable of hitting the 100-point mark this season which are the Toledo Walleye who currently sit at 99 points and last year’s Brabham Cup Champions the Idaho Steelheads who would have to win their remaining three games to hit 100 points as they currently sit at 94 points.

Head Coach Tad O’Had picked up his 148th win behind the Mavericks’ bench, the most wins by a Mavericks head coach. This is the second time in his career that he has been behind the bench of a Brabham Cup-winning team, as he was an assistant with the Florida Everblades when they won the Brabham Cup in 2019. Kansas City has already clinched the Mountain Division, and it is the first time that Kansas City has won the Mountain Division.
