Forward Colby McAuley is heading overseas to Germany after spending the last year and a half with the Allen Americans after playing in 17 games with the Belfast Giants during the 2022-23 season. He led the Americans last season with 25 goals and 38 assists for 63 points in 68 games.
The 28-year-old forward has spent seven seasons in the ECHL, including five seasons with the Americans and the other two seasons with the Orlando Solar Bears and Idaho Steelheads. McAuley has put up 90 goals and 127 assists for 217 points in 279 games during his ECHL career. He became the fifth player from the Americans to sign in another country since the season ended, joining Liam Finlay, Grant Hebert, Jordan-Ty Fournier, and Kameron Kielly. McAuley has also played in 41 career AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda and Hershey Bears, putting up four goals and seven assists for 11 points.
This is a big loss for Allen as they lose their leading scorer from last season and someone who has spent a lot of time in the Americans organization. Despite losing McAuley, the Americans did sign a top-six forward to a contract this morning. Prior to going pro, McAuley spent three seasons in the WHL with the Prince George Cougars and wore a letter in two of those three seasons. He would put up 44 goals and 52 assists for 96 points, along with 318 PIMs in 191 games. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native, led the WHL in PIMS during the 2015-16 season (156).
