
The Worcester Railers have suffered a big blow as defenseman Connor Welsh is heading overseas to Slovakia to join HK Dukla Michalovce. Welsh played in all 72 games last season, putting up eight goals and 49 assists for 57 points. He led the Railers in assists and finished second in points. Welsh led all defensemen in points during the 2024-25 season and was named to the ECHL Second All-Star Team. He is the fourth player to head overseas and the second in the last two days after Mason Klee headed to Denmark yesterday.
Connor Welsh, 27, spent the first two years of his career with the Trois-Rivieres Lions, putting up three goals and 19 assists for 22 points in 74 games. He would add two assists in six games during the 2022 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Welsh would join the Railers for the 2023-24 season and would end up spending two seasons in Worcester. In 142 games with the Railers, he would put up 15 goals and 71 assists for 86 points.
Junior Career
Prior to going pro, Welsh spent two seasons in the BCHL with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Trail Smoke Eaters. In 113 games, he would put up 17 goals and 38 assists for 55 points. He would add five assists in 16 postseason games. The Halifax, Nova Scotia, native would then take his talents to USports, playing three years at Dalhousie University. In 81 games with the Tigers, he would put up seven goals and 41 assists for 48 points. Welsh would add a goal and three assists for four points in three playoff games.
