ECHL: Defenseman Grant Gabriele Signs with Toledo Walleye

The Toledo Walleye have signed defenseman Grant Gabriele for the 2023-2024 season.

The 26-year-old spent last season in the ECHL with the Maine Mariners. He appeared in 67 contests and posted 25 points made up of 9 goals and 16 assists. He also had 22 penalty minutes. Gabriele finished the season with a +5 rating. Prior to the Mariners, Gabriele made his professional debut playing two games for the Providence Bruins in the AHL. Between the two games, he did not have any points. 

Prior to making his ECHL professional debut, the Brighton, Michigan native spent five seasons at the Ohio State University. He saw action in 124 games while with the Buckeyes. He had an overall total of 50 points (13 goals and 37 assists). Gabriele was a part of the Ohio State team that won the Big Ten regular season championship in 2018-2019. However, Gabriele’s best season was in 2021-2022, his final season with the Buckeyes. He had career highs with 37 games played, five goals, 15 assists, and 20 points total. He also had 12 penalty minutes but ended the season with a +12 rating.

The 2023-2024 Toledo Walleye season officially begins on Saturday, October 21st, with an away contest in Kalamazoo. The Walleye will be at The Huntington Center on Friday, November 3rd, versus Reading for Opening Weekend.
