On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits announced the second signing for the 2023-2024 season. Bringing back the 23-year-old defenseman from North Vancouver, BC, Canada, Ethan Cap. Cap will go into his third season with the Swamp Rabbits after spending five years in the Western Hockey League, playing for the Edmonton Oil Kings from 2016-2017 through 2020-2021.

Cap re-signs after coming off his best season in his short ECHL career, after playing in 53 games his first year with the Swamp Rabbits and totaling 11 points (1G, 10A). Cap went on to play in 17 more games bringing his total to 70, and nearly doubled his points total from the year before with 21(2G, 19A). Cap was also a solid contributor in last year’s playoffs against the Jacksonville Icemen, where Cap had four points in the six games played. All four points came from assists.

Being able to re-sign Cap is good news for the Swamp Rabbits, as they continue to bring back players who consistently played well during the regular season and contributed during the first round of the playoffs. Cap will join the first announced signing for the Swamp Rabbits this year. Last year’s teammate, Ben Freeman, also showed up big in the playoffs—having six points total in the six games that were played.

The Swamp Rabbits will open the regular season on home ice on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Bon Secours Wellness Arena when they take on the Norfolk Admirals.
