ECHL Game Recap: Adirondack Thunder vs Kalamazoo Wings | 02/26/2025

Kalamazoo Wings/ECHL

The Adirondack Thunder would continue their road trip on Wednesday Night as they headed to Kalamazoo to play the Kalamazoo Wings in the first meeting between the two teams since February 16th, 2019. Adirondack would have another strong first period, as they would get a PP just 54 seconds in as former Thunder Travis Broughman would be called for hooking. The Thunder would have a ton of chances on the PP but couldn’t convert, however they controlled the pace of the game early, having the first 11 shots on net. Adirondack would fire 20 shots on Kalamazoo’s Hunter Vorva in the opening frame and would finally break through at the 19:06 mark as Brendan Less would feed Greg Smith for a beautiful redirect for his second goal in as many games as Adirondack took a 1-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes of play.

Kalamazoo would waste no time getting on the scoreboard in the 2nd as Drake Pilon would fire a shot from the point, and just like that, the K-Wings were back in the game. Kalamazoo would take the lead at the 6:28 mark as Davis Codd would tip home a shot from Christian Felton to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead. For Felton, that would be his first career point. It would take Kalamazoo just 46 seconds to extend their lead to two as Collin Saccoman fired a bomb that beat Tyler Brennan to make it a 3-1 game, forcing Adirondack Head Coach Pete MacArthur to call his timeout. Adirondack would have their chances, including a glorious short-handed opportunity in which Vorva would make an unbelievable save to protect the K-Wings two-goal lead, as it would be 3-1 K-Wings after 40 minutes of play.

Coming into tonight, Adirondack was 1-26 when trailing after two periods of play. Once again, it would be the former who took a penalty, giving the Thunder another PP. Adirondack wouldn’t be able to convert on the PP, but Gustav Muller would score off the faceoff at 5:51, and then, 21 seconds later, it would be Ryan Francis who tied the game for the Thunder, forcing Joel Martin to use his timeout. It appeared as if Adirondack’s comeback would be enough to earn them a well-deserved point, but Zach Okabe would net his 13th of the year to give the K-Wings a 4-3 lead at 14:56 as the K-Wings would hold on for a 4-3 victory. Hunter Vorva would pick up his fourth win of the season after returning from overseas, after he originally signed to play with the Nottingham Panthers for the season. Vorva would make 39 saves on the night while also adding an assist. Tyler Brennan made 28 saves in the loss.

Adirondack will now have one day off before beginning a three-in-three weekend as they’ll play two games against the Wheeling Nailers before finishing the weekend against the Cincinati Cyclones.
