ECHL Game Recap: Adirondack Thunder vs Trois-Rivieres Lions | 02/23/2025

Trois-Rivieres Lions/ECHL

The Adirondack Thunder and Trois-Rivieres Lions would wrap up their seven-game series on Sunday afternoon, with the Lions taking five of the first six games. It would be a tough start for the Thunder as Grant Loven would take a penalty just 34 seconds after the opening faceoff, giving the Lions an early PP. Tyler Brennan would make a couple of big saves to keep the Lions off the board, but the Lions would eventually crack through as Morgan Adams-Moisan would tip in a shot in front to get Trois-Rivieres on the board just 2:05 into the game. Adirondack would get a PP of their own later in the period, and Loven would redeem himself as he put home the tying goal at the 12:50 mark of the opening frame as the teams would be tied at one after the opening 20 minutes of play.

Trois-Rivieres Lions/ECHL

Jakov Novak has been a Thunder killer all season as coming into Sunday, he had 13 points in 13 games against Adirondack. His success would continue as he would skate around the Thunder and then put home his 20th goal of the season less than two minutes into the middle frame. Adirondack and Trois-Rivieres would both have golden opportunities to take the lead in the second as T.J.Friedmann and Morgan Adams-Moisan each would have breakaway opportunities, but the goaltenders would keep the game tied at two heading into the third period.

Trois-Rivieres Lions/ECHL

As expected after playing each other seven straight times, tensions would boil over in the third as Sean Gulka and Cory Thomas would drop the gloves at the 3:55 mark of the 3rd period. Both teams would have PP opportunities in the third but wouldn’t be able to convert as it would take OT to settle the series’ final game between the Lions and Thunder. Ryan Francis had a golden chance to win it for the Thunder in OT but would be stopped by Luke Cavallin. The Lions would take the extra point as Chris Jandric beat Tyler Brennan at the 2:51 mark of the OT period to earn the extra point. Tonight’s win would mark the 35th victory of the season for the Lions, surpassing the 34 wins they had in their inaugural season.

For Adirondack, this is a solid start to the road trip, picking up three of a possible six points against the Lions on the road. Tyler Brennan has looked solid in the last two games and should be seeing a majority of the starts for Adirondack moving forward unless Jeremy Brodeur is sent back to Adirondack. The Thunder will continue their road trip on Wednesday Night against the Kalamazoo Wings before making stops in Wheeling, Cincinnati, and Reading before returning home on March 7th.
