The Adirondack Thunder would play their fifth game in their fourth different city dating back to last Sunday as they headed to Charleston, South Carolina, for a two-game set vs South Carolina Stingrays. Once again, the Thunder would come out of the gate slowly as Kyler Kupka would get the first shot of the game, and it would beat Tyler Brennan as the Stingrays had a 1-0 lead just 2:43 into the opening period. Later in the period, two former Thunder teammates would team up as Blake Thompson fed Erik Middendorf for a tip-in at 15:56 to give South Carolina a 2-0 lead as they would outshoot Adirondack 10-3 in the opening period.

“It’s obviously a good feeling to get on the board quick there, but we had a tough loss last night and we came into this game saying get pucks deep and our skill will take over once we get them to turn pucks over”

Tensions started to boil over in the second as Jackson van de Leest and Ryan Hofer dropped the gloves 2:06 into the second period. Things wouldn’t get much in the second as Tyler Weiss scored on a PP to make it 4-0 at the 13:23 mark of the period as after two periods, it was 4-0 Stingrays as Adirondack was being outshot 23-8 after 40 minutes of play.

In the third, the Thunder finally woke up as Josh Filmon sniped one past Mitchell Gibson to open the scoring for his second goal in two games to get the Thunder on the board. Just under nine minutes into the period, Mike Bergin would get tossed from the game, this coming just 55 seconds after Adirondack was called for a bench minor for unsportsmanlike misconduct. Tensions continued to stay high as Darian Skeoch would come to the aid of his teammates after a big hit as he raced down the ice to grab anyone in a Stingray jersey and would be given a double minor for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct for continuing the altercation. Adirondack would make it as Patrick Polino fed Ryan Wheeler in front for his fourth of the season to make it 4-2, but that’s as close they would come as they would drop their fourth straight game by a score of 5-2 with Jamie Engelbert adding an empty netter in the final minute. Adirondack will finish their four-game road trip tomorrow afternoon vs Stingrays, with puck drop at 3 pm.
